With so many special occasions coming up, I’ve had many friends and colleagues ask for tips regarding their attire for some of the local galas, Christmas parties, and more! It’s all so exciting, but yet so nerve racking. So, I’ve taken it upon myself to give out some tips and tricks that will hopefully help a lot of my readers walk confidently into these pertinent events!

READY? Let’s get into it!

For starters, you definitely need to start with your body type right? I wrote on that in the past but if you need a refresher, there are tons of resources online that you can easily use.

Here’s a link to part 1 of what I wrote that’s still live on Connect Savannah.

For a black tie event you most certainly want to accentuate your figure, and where silhouettes that suit you the best. Doing too much experimentation wouldn’t be something I recommend, but go with what makes you the most happy and comfortable. Elongate your body. Consider how to pose for pictures. AND don’t stop smiling!

Secondly, consider your accessories. Ladies, even the simplest solid black gown, needs a little razzle-dazzle for the accessories. Go bold, but not too gaudy! You want to exemplify style, so don’t let anything on you compete. Try not to mix metals, stick with one throughout your look. You’ll need a clutch, you don’t want a full-on purse for a gala. You won’t be able to fit EVERYTHING in that clutch, but you can fit the essentials.

Gentlemen, keep it simple. A nice black tuxedo and polished shirt will do. Get some cufflinks that are noticeable when you shake hands with others. The tie and pocket square are excellent ways to simply accessorize as well, but ensure if you are accompanied by anyone, you match them!

Lastly, don’t overthink this! You’ve got this. I know we are all excited to BE OUT THE HOUSE, and we want to look good (rather we lost or gained 20 lbs LOL), and you CAN LOOK GOOD.

Just take a little time to select your outfit, then accessorize it (start with the shoes then move to the others), and don’t rush to get ready. Many of us get stressed out for events like this for two major reasons: 1) We don’t take our time getting ready the day of, and 2) we don’t plan ahead of time, so we are frustrated we can’t get everything done in time.

Rushing will not only affect your mood, but it will lower your mentality about this and other occasions.

I hope to see you all at some of these events really soon! Especially the Celebration Fundraiser the The Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce is having Nov. 11! Click HERE to learn more.

Until next week Fashionistas!
