Rising along the river

Every day, Jean Claude Martin sets up shop along with many other businesses lining Savannah’s riverfront. As locals and visitors begin to stroll the cobblestoned streets during this warm season of the year, crowds surround him — some to marvel at his artwork, some to buy. Martin uses vibrant colors, an island flair, and endless inspiration to paint lively people and places with no two paintings being identical, the artist said.

‘Help more kids, eat more chocolate’

At 1 N. Godley Station Blvd. stands The Chocolate Martini Bar, a new restaurant serving chocolate-infused food and drinks, all while serving the community in more ways than one. The franchise owner, Maurice Gilliard, describes the restaurant’s food as all-American style cuisine. Though many people think “dessert” when they come across the place, the eatery serves appetizers and entrees including steaks, pecan chicken, pastas, sandwiches, and salads, just to name a few.

Service surge

SCAD SERVE is a student-lead community service initiative implemented by the university to bring together the Savannah College of Art and Design community with neighbors and leaders. On March 19, the program had its expansion kickoff which included over 50 students boxing non-perishable items on at SCAD’s “The Hive” residence hall parking garage. On the following day another 100-plus SCAD students, faculty and staff joined together at Sustainable Fellwood and hand-delivered 320 boxes of food to each apartment.

The Telfair Museum’s latest photography exhibition, “Vehicles of Change,” by assistant curator, Anne-Solene Bayan, is currently on display in the Jepson Center. “Vehicles of Change” is an exhibition featuring more than a dozen works from the Telfair Museum’s permanent collection in collaboration with the Savannah Municipal Archives. Featuring 20th-century photographs from the museum’s collection, this exhibition shines a light on the liberating impact of automobility in mid-20th century America.
