In today’s media climate, where Facebook comments have replaced good ol’ fashioned Letters to the Editor, we rarely get this kind of thoughtful feedback anymore. That’s an indication of the pent-up concern that’s out there, and the importance of providing a credible, independent venue in which to voice that frustration and air those concerns.

Editor’s Note: The List, aka, What’s Really Going Wrong In Savannah?
With election season upon us, here’s a laundry list of issues that pop into my mind when I think of what’s gone sideways in Savannah.
Editor’s Note: Unsafe at any speed
After the buses get rolling this week and the safety issue fades in the public consciousness, another backstory will remain: The issue of why this School Board President and School Board are consistently not being given vital information by the administrative staff at 208 Bull Street.
Editor’s Note: Game-changers on the horizon?
There are at least two other rumored candidates thinking about a mayoral run, the most public of which is former state legislator and retired WTOC TV news anchor Sonny Dixon.
Editor’s Note: Memory Holes
The same people who hired and supported Willie Lovett are the exact same people asking you to return them to office this November. And now… there’s a mistrial in a key case.
Editor’s Note: Grey ghosts
In my road trips through the Carolinas and Georgia, I’m struck by how the small towns have become depopulated zombie wastelands. It’s a silent disaster. The old Main Streets of the old Confederacy are mostly boarded up.
Editor’s Note: Taking out the trash in the school budget
The bid rejected by the board would save nearly $4 million over a ten-year period. How many new teachers do you think could be hired with that money?
Editor’s Note: Most. Interesting. Week. Ever.
After the gay marriage ruling, I’ve never seen such a widespread, spontaneous and genuine outpouring of joy, relief, and celebration from so many people as I saw that day, and the weekend to follow. Frankly, it might be the most deeply felt expression of national unity seen since 9/11, if I may be so bold.
Editor’s Note: #TakeDownTheFlag? That’s the easy part
As much as we want to think Charleston is the tipping point, many of us thought the same thing after Newtown, only to be bitterly disappointed. Next time there probably won’t be as obvious a vector for our grief and anger as a flag.
Editor’s Note: School tax hike deserves closer scrutiny
In the most recent meeting, Jolene Byrne—potential swing vote on the tax increase—pointed out that board members hadn’t even seen the budget yet, though they were supposed to receive it by May 21. But Lockamy was asking them to vote yes anyway.
Editor’s Note: ‘Tell the police I’m Commissioner Shabazz’
As long as voters keep electing and re-electing people like this, they shouldn’t be surprised when the youngest and most impressionable among us continue to lose their way, often in a lethal fashion.
Editor’s Note: Privilege and Preservation
As history and irony would have it, it’s precisely because Georgia’s barrier islands were playgrounds of the privileged rich and famous that they’re so well-preserved from rampant development today.
