This year is the 25th anniversary of the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force in Pooler. That is but one of the many reasons the organization, along with other Savannah-area veteran’s groups, is honoring service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice in a number of commemorations and ceremonies slated for Memorial Day weekend.

The inaugural “Freedom Floats” will be a patriotic parade past Savannah’s downtown waterfront on July 4 in honor of Independence Day.
After the rousing success of 2021’s St. Patrick’s Day “Shamrock Ships Flotilla” boat parade, organizers are gearing up for more revelry on the river.
The parade itself will start floating in view down the Savannah River at about 3:30 p.m. on July 4.

Comfort for Unaccompanied Women
On any given night, about 188 women experience homelessness in Chatham-County, Union Mission president and CEO, Michael Traynor said.
To counteract this social and economic dilemma, Union Mission announced a new capital campaign to raise $1.5 million for A Haven for Her — a public facility to help stabilize unaccompanied women without homes. A Haven for Her expands service delivery to 32 women as part of a new Grace House for Women.

A Fundraiser That’s On Par
Hundreds of numbered golf balls will be covering the driving range of the Deer Creek course in the Landings on April 26 for The One Hundred Children’s Foundation’s Great Golf Ball Drop fundraiser. The OHCF will host an elegant picnic dinner under tents on the driving range, followed by a golf ball drop. Golf balls can be purchased for $100 and prizes will be awarded to the three golf balls that land closest to the hole.
