TYBEE RESTAURANT WEEK: Enjoy fantastic flavors on the island

Foodies rejoice! Tybee Restaurant Week is returning once again, providing the perfect opportunity to savor the many culinary delights the island has to offer. Taking place Feb. 16–29, Tybee Restaurant Week is a two-week celebration of Tybee’s food and beverage industry complete with delicious dishes and drinks, multi-course meals and other special menu offerings. During restaurant week, the public is welcome to experience the best of Tybee’s local cuisine, so take advantage of this exciting chance to discover the diversity and deliciousness of the island’s fantastic fare.

“Restaurant week has been happening on Tybee since 2011. . . We are encouraging the community and visitors to come out and support local restaurateurs on Tybee by trying out their special food and drink menus during restaurant week,” said Cassidi Kendrick, Tybee Island Main Street Development Authority Director. “We purposely do this event during the off season on Tybee to give the businesses some extra support and exposure during a usually slow time. This year we have more restaurants than ever participating, and their menus look so delicious! It’s so fun to see the local chefs and bartenders showcase their talents and flair with the specials they create.”

This year, more than ten restaurants are participating with more establishments being added every day. So far, the list includes Pier 16, Agave Bar & Grill, North Beach Bar and Grill, Bubba Gumbo’s, Zunzibar, Sea Wolf Tybee, The Deck Beachbar & Kitchen, A-J’s Dockside Restaurant, Wet Willie’s Tybee location, Seaside Sweets and Mi Vida. Each participating restaurant is offering a special promotion to attract hungry patrons. Here are some of the amazing offers to look forward to.

Sea Wolf Tybee

For the first time, Sea Wolf Tybee is participating in Tybee Restaurant Week, and they’re offering a delectable entree and wine pairing as a part of the culinary celebration. For just $26, guests can enjoy a vegan stuffed portobello with a glass of Henri Champliau Petrone sparkling wine. Restaurant week also coincides with Sea Wolf’s annual Wisconsin Supper Club featuring an a la carte menu that’s reminiscent of a 1960’s steak house. Menu highlights include hyper-local ingredients like the Tybee Oyster Co. salt bomb oysters, Georgia wild-caught shrimp, and Chatel Farms beef tenderloin. With vegan and gluten-free options available, there’s something for everyone at Sea Wolf.

North Beach Bar and Grill

North Beach Bar and Grill is continuing their Grill Gives Back year-long celebration by hosting ribbon-cutting and manatee dedication on the first day of Tybee Restaurant Week, Friday, Feb. 6, at 3 p.m. After the festivities, they’ll continue to offer two special prix-fixe menus for the duration of restaurant week. For just $37.95, guests can enjoy their choice of three craveable courses. Available Feb. 16–22, week one menu items include creamy sherry seafood stew, asiago stuffed gnocchi with mushroom, seared unicorn fish, marinated teres major steak, banana pudding trifle, and orange creamsicle pie, among other appetizing options. Known for their award-winning sandwiches and bold wings, Zunzibar is running a special promotion during Tybee Restaurant Week. Patrons can choose one hot drink and one entree — a sandwich and chips, 10 wings and chips, Gaby’s green salad, slaap chip nachos, or the ever-popular Oliver’s lunch — rounding out the meal with a sweet treat in the form of two s’mores kits to roast at their fire pits. All of this is available at the affordable price of $26 per person, all the more reason to indulge at Zunzibar this restaurant week.

Wet Willie’s

Everyone knows Wet Willie’s for their delightful frozen daiquiris that pack a punch, but some may be unaware that the bar also serves up tasty food too. Tybee Restaurant Week presents an excellent opportunity to discover the toothsome dishes that await at Wet Willie’s. They’re offering two specials, one for breakfast and another for lunch/dinner as a part of the celebration. For breakfast, guests can enjoy Wet Willie’s Eggs in a Nest, featuring fried eggs inside golden-brown toast served with seasoned home fries and crispy bacon. For lunch or dinner, salivate over their bacon pimento cheeseburger, starring a flame-grilled, Cajun-seasoned premium beef patty topped with a hearty helping of ooey-gooey pimento cheese, hot sauce, cheddar-jack cheese, bacon and fried pickles. The breakfast special is available for $8.25 and the lunch/dinner special is priced at $15.25.

Agave Bar & Grill

For some of the best Mexican food on the island, Agave Bar & Grill is the place to be. And this restaurant week, they're offering three courses and a drink for just $30 per person. Start with some warm chips and cheese dip or guacamole. Follow it up with your choice of Agave burritos, carne asada, pollo con chorizo, arroz Texano or chicken or beef fajitas. Finish off with churros, chimi-cheesecake or flan. And wash it all down with a house margarita or tall draft beer.
