Country singer Chase Matthew is ready to rock District Live

A multi-instrumentalist hailing from Nashville, country singer Chase Matthew says music has always been a big part of his life.

“I’m a highschool dropout who grew up singing in church,” Matthew said. “Music has kinda always been something that’s been around me and if there wasn’t a piano in the corner there was a guitar beside the couch. I think I wrote my first song when I was 13 or 14.”

According to Matthew, he grew up in a divided household which in return exposed him to various musical influences.

“I have so many influences because in my mom's house we were listening to gospel music and contemporary Christian and in my dad's house we were listening to country music and rock n’ roll,” he explained. “I’ve kinda had the best of both worlds in terms of musical influences and they’ve all helped me to develop my voice.”

As a multi-instrumentalist, Matthew says he was never properly musically trained and has taught himself everything he knows, including how to produce music.

“I play everything about the same and I never learned how to play any of the instruments properly. I play drums, piano, guitar, I sing, and I also produce a lot too. I have a home studio here in Nashville and I love being able to get up in the morning and get right to it. Being a Nashville native, there’s a lot of talented people here and there’s a lot of people who don’t realize what they have at their fingertips, so I’ve tried to make it count where I could and it’s brought me here today.”

In 2022, Matthew's debut album, “Born for This” was released and ever since he’s been on a songwriting roll. Recently, he released his newest album “Come Get Your Memory,” and according to him, narrowing down the list to just 25 songs was no easy task.

“We had a bunch of songs to choose from and it was hard to pick which ones would go on the album,” Matthew said. “I’m 25 right now and the album has 25 songs on it which I just felt like was the right number. I wrote the majority of the songs and I think there’s a little bit of something on there for everybody.”

When it comes to narrowing down his favorite song on the album, Matthew says that it’s hard to pick.

“There are a lot of cool songs on the album but ‘‘Saw Me Here’ is probably my favorite because it talks about how we all struggle to believe in ourselves and I never saw myself actually doing this,” he explained. “The words say ‘I thought I’d be stuck in that town working that job til the sun goes down’ and I was an ATV mechanic for six years…I loved my job but it wasn’t what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Music brings people together and I can’t believe I’m actually doing this with my life. I love all of my fans and Savannah please come see me at District Live! It’ll be worth it!”
