LET'S raise a glass for two delicious years of Savannah-based beer! Veteran owned and operated Service Brewing has made a tremendous impact on Savannah’s taps and community, and it’s time to celebrate.
It’s not only a birthday party: the evening is also a benefit for the company’s summer charity, Tiny House Project through Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless.
The Authority’s burgeoning project will take place on a three-acre site east of downtown. In time, that plot of land will blossom into a community of tiny houses, the first dozen of which will go to homeless veterans. Each house will have a bathroom, heating, and air conditioning. It’s a perfect cause for the service-minded Service Brewing.
In keeping with tradition, Service will brew a special beer for the occasion. SBC2, the Anniversary Brew, is a 9.5% Alcohol By Volume Pale American-Belgo-Style Ale. The Service team’s gone all out, starting with a yeast that’s cultured from the brewery’s own honeycomb. That yeast gives the brew its Belgian qualities and fruity and floral notes; with a dash of mango and tangy citrus from Citra hop and blood orange zest, it’s sure to be a refreshing brew perfect for the Slowvannah summer.
And that’s not all! Service has teamed up with MusicFile Productions to bring Athens faves The Whigs and Charleston’s own Susto to Savannah.
Susto just released an irreverent, tongue-in-cheek music video for “Chillin’ On The Beach With My Best Friend Jesus Christ” in which frontman Justin Osborne and pals shoot hoops, do keg stands, and wade in the water with the Son of God. And over-the-top take on growing up in the South, riffing on developing a “personal relationship with Christ,” Osborne strives to bridge the gap between his upbringing and his current views. The single will be released on 7” picture vinyl later in the year.
No need to eat dinner before the show: veteran-owned Big Bon Pizza will be slingin’ pies from their mobile wood-fired oven, topped with local ingredients to make your mouth water. Commemorate the evening with a pic in AINT-BAD Magazine’s photo booth.
Brewery tours will be conducted throughout the evening and are a real treat if you’ve never been behind the scenes to see how your favorite beers are made.
The price of admission includes the concert, pizza, photo booth pictures, 36 ounces of beer, a souvenir 750ml bottle of SBC2, and a limited edition glass commemorating the big night.
