The Chatham County Police Department is asking eyewitnesses to come forward as they investigate a fatal shooting that happened on Highway 204 yesterday afternoon.
Chatham County Police Department officers responded to Highway 204 near Gateway Boulevard just after 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, for a report of a shooting. An adult male occupant of a vehicle on Highway 204 was seriously injured, and transported to a local hospital for treatment where he later died.
While the investigation is in its very early stages, Chatham County Police Department detectives believe the victim was shot by the occupant of another vehicle. Detectives are now analyzing forensic evidence and conducting interviews as they work to determine a motive and a suspect.
Investigators believe a number of people in traffic witnessed the shooting, and are now asking anyone who saw the incident — or who may have information — to come forward.
