EVERY YEAR, Hospice Savannah’s Summer Nights party is a must-attend event.
This year, in light of the pandemic, the beloved party is going virtual.
Supporters can tune in at 7 p.m. on Sept. 24 to join in the e-festivities, where they’ll learn more about Hospice’s services, take a tour of the newly renovated Hospice Inpatient Unit, and hear from sponsors and donors. Live music will be provided by the Midtown Pickers and the Jody Jazz Trio.
As Beth Logan, director of marketing and volunteer services, explains, the party is just 45 minutes long—“so you have no reason not to come!”
The brief party will bring the fun to your very own party destination. And what’s a party without a cocktail? Local bartender Shelley Smith created the signature Summer Nights 2020 cocktail, and she recorded a video of herself making the drink so everyone watching at home can mix up their very own.
In addition, there will be an online auction with proceeds set to benefit Hospice’s Healing Arts of Music and Massage Therapy.
Participants can bid on art by 11 local artists: Randy Akers, Stacie Jean Albano, Nancy Boyd, Angela Burson, Chris Carpentino, Bud Green, Danielle Hughes, Tobia Makover, Lisa Ocampo, Daniel E. Smith and Heather L. Young.
Location Gallery’s partnership with Hospice Savannah is nothing new.
“There are lots of Buy Now items from local artists and jewelers that have a meaningful connection to Hospice Savannah,” says Location Gallery’s director Peter Roberts. “Location’s very first show at our former address—yes, we’re moving—was with Hospice, so it’s very full circle that this show is with them.”
“We’re happy to partner with Peter again,” adds Logan.
Location Gallery will be moving to the corner of Bull and Liberty, so mark your calendars for an opening in October.
In addition to the art offered by Location Gallery, the auction will feature jewelry by Hospice Savannah’s medical director, Dr. Sandy Gordon-Kolb, an artisan goldsmith with Jazzy Gems Studio.
Also included in the auction are nine trips to both domestic and overseas locations, which Logan finds particularly exciting.
“In these weird Covid days, we’re all anxious to go on vacations again when it is safe to do so,” says Logan. “We have nine trips in the auction that all come with three-year windows and no blackout dates. They come with a personal planning assistant and include airfare.”
The auction also includes spa baskets by Pelindaba Lavender and a gift basket of alcohol by the Fresh Market.
All in all, Summer Nights may look a bit different this year, but it’s an exciting opportunity to have a virtual party while also learning about Hospice’s critical work.
“We’ve tried to make it fun and interesting, while also focusing on why it’s so vitally important that music and massage therapy continue to be funded for our patients,” says Logan. “These two ‘extra’ programs are not paid for by the Medicare Hospice benefit and are not possible without community funding and philanthropy.”
