Review: The Taming of the Shrew by Savannah Shakes
As excellent as the two leads are, what makes this show really stand out is the supporting cast. Shrew is particularly blessed with distinctive secondary characters.

Editor’s Note: Taking out the trash in the school budget
The bid rejected by the board would save nearly $4 million over a ten-year period. How many new teachers do you think could be hired with that money?
Of course it’s safe to go back in the water … for now
The marine animals we ought to dread most around here are not eight-to-12 foot bloodthirsty predators with multiple rows of serrated teeth, but something much smaller. Microscopic, actually.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream like you’ve never seen
IT’S THE middle of summer and, well …. what better time to stage Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, eh? Hey-ooooo. Except Savannah Stage Company is doing no ordinary production of the Bard’s beloved mélange of love, lust, fairies, and knuckleheaded “mechanicals.” This show upstairs at Ampersand has a cast of only six actors, taking on…

The Circle of Robyn Reeder
ON THE SECOND FLOOR of 14 E. Broughton Street, there’s a towering circle centered against the street-side window. It was originally handmade by Sebastian Edwards…
Review: Amy
It’s easy for us working-class stiffs to get annoyed with celebrities who have it all and seemingly throw it away, but Amy does a better job than almost any other documentary in detailing how the pressures of being perpetually thrust into the spotlight are very real. This is poignant material, with the outrage mostly emanating…
