On Friday morning SCAD SERVE student volunteers delivered over 100 handmade flowers to mothers, grandmothers, and mother-figures to the residents of the Rose of Sharon senior living community on East Taylor Street to spread joy and appreciation.

SCAD SERVE, the university’s design for good studio, listens to leaders in the community and dedicates university resources to improve lives in our hometowns of Savannah and Atlanta.  Today our students were spreading joy and warmth by delivering handmade, everlasting flowers in honor of Mother’s Day. The one-of-a-kind flowers were designed and crafted by our students and personally gifted to residents to brighten their day and remind them that they are special.”

SCAD SERVE freshman Fabiola Chinea helped hand out the flowers.  “I can’t go home to Puerto Rico for Mother’s Day to be with my grandmother and mother, so I wanted to come here and make another grandmother happy,” Chinea said.

So far during this school year students have volunteered more than 1500 hours to the Savannah community by painting playground murals at local schools, planting hundreds of trees in neighborhoods with less tree canopy, and donating fresh produce to America’s Second Harvest, to name a few.
