Chris Cook’s Roaring ’20s
Local impresario Cook now puts his stamp on the famously decadent era of prohibition. As usual, dressing up in period garb is encouraged, and along with a DJ spinning dance music of the time, there will be plenty of prizes awarded in a variety of themed contests. Hazel Virtue
This melodic, regional modern rock act has strong ties to both Savannah and Charleston, and have been slugging away in the trenches for several years. At long last that seems to be paying off, with at least one local commercial FM station spinning their latest CD much more regularly than can usually be expected from such outlets. Hot Pink Interior
This young but promising local band is about as unpretentious as they come. They play slightly fuzzed-out pop-rock thats a little bit punk and a little bit bubblegum. The happy-go-lucky mix of two scene veterans and two relative neophytes makes for a refreshing dynamic. Recommended for fans of That Dog and Joan Jett. Keith Kozel & The Foxedos w/Whiskey Dick & The Prowlin Rooster
Superhorse frontman Kozel and his rotating collective of sidemen (featuring multi-instrumentalists Ricardo Ochoa and Seb Edwards) inaugurate a new monthly showcase of underground and counterculture talent in a relaxed listening room environment. The idea is to present local musicians in a format unlike that in which they normally perform. Whiskey Dicks rode-hard-and-put-up-wet take on the outlaw country genre is at times racy, and at times tranquil, much like David Allan Coe or Kris Kristofferson. Georgia Kyle Shiver
This locally-based singer/songwriter paid his dues on the Northeastern folk scene, and has released 2 indie CDs of acoustic, blues-influenced rock and pop. Also a member of The Back River Ramblers, his solo shows include a healthy dose of covers, as well as his own impressive originals. Starchild
These ultra-indie doom-rockers from the oddly undoom-like Waycross, Ga. kneel penitent at the altar of early Black Sabbath. Their Über-heavy Orange amp sound owes an acknowledged debt to the now-defunct Sleep, as well as the their celebrated labelmates High On Fire. This is pounding, spooky, bone-crushing space metal for the fearless. Sat., The Jinx.
Ti Jean Blues This play is based around excerpts from the late Jack Kerouacs writings, including his classic On The Road. It celebrates his worldview and its influence on society as a whole.
