Remember Main Ingredient? That 70s soul group had a chart-topping crossover hit with Everybody Plays The Fool, sung by Cuba Gooding, Jr.s father. This journeyman vocalist was briefly a member of that group, as well as a touring fill-in for one of The Platters. He currently lists as his mission, to show people, through my music, how they affect their baby in the nine month period of development… You cannot smoke marijuana, snort cocaine, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, or eat the wrong foods! His new solo album is the soundtrack to a low-budget movie that he has yet to make. He also plans to create a very funny sitcom called Ruben and Leroy before he departs to the next level of existence. First Friday For Folk Music
This monthly coffeehouse-style family-oriented concert series has been going strong for well over 100 installments, and now returns for one night only to the venue where it was founded (its current home is otherwise occupied this time around). Santa Fé-based headliner Jaime Michaels is a 2-time Kerrville Folk Fest finalist best known in our area as the former lead singer for the Truly Dangerous Swamp Band. No less than Pete Seeger says that Massachusetts Jay Mankita is one of the half-dozen best songwriters today. His irreverantly humorous tunes have been heard on NPR. The King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation was formed in 1981 to resaerch, collect and present African-American cultural experiences of Georgia and South Carolinas Sea Islands. This annual banquet is their primary fundraiser, and one of this years 5 Fine Arts Award Recipients is Grammy-winner Antwan (Big Boi) Patton of the hip-hop group OutKast, an international superstar and Savannah native.
