THE MUMMY CATS + THE TRAGEDEE @ EL ROCKO

These kitties come from Birmingham (AL), not the first city that comes to mind when you think about bombastic art rock, modern goth-disco, and a super-slick package to thrust those sounds about. The production and musicianship is big and bold, and makes you feel loose. Highly recommended.

Weren’t you just sitting around the other day thinking to yourself, “you know, I haven’t had my face melted off in a while.”? Your prayers have been answered. THGTC’s metal at medium volume can make barnacles slide off a Viking ship like they’re made of nuru gel. Then, when you slip and fall in the puddle that was your face, that’s when the Choir stomps your hapless eardrums into Beyond Beef.

JAY BADLANI @ THE WORMHOLE

In his fifth year of comedy bouncing between Atlanta and Athens, a review of video shows tremendous growth in Badlani’s confidence, not to mention his ability to drop sarcasm, snark, and dark shit with a quick-yet-deadpan delivery. He crams all three into a story about a friend’s sick dog and the massive human drug supply it may soon leave behind.

THE SHOW GHOULS STUPID CUPID SHOWCASE @ THE WORMHOLE

A two-set drag show to get you in or out of the Valentine’s Day mood, whichever you prefer. The show opens with some lovey-dovey and nasty-freaky expression, followed by a darker, anti-love and breakup theme to close. In between, a lip sync battle by mortified audience members.

SAVANNAH IS FOR LOVERS @ BARRELHOUSE SOUTH

If you fly the “Still Emo” banner, head to Barrelhouse South and feel a little less sad, if only for a while. Like, what’s the difference, anyway? The “…is for Lovers” DJ/sound system/singalong program, with “cover band” Sadsongs, is bringing back the early-aughts emo and pop-punk throwback show to Savannah. Go get your mope on.
