Jon Waits took these photos chronicling the grand opening of the Savannah LGBT Center. More than 150 people crowded the new center at 1515 Bull Street and the adjoining parking lot on Thursday afternoon to celebrate the opening of the new facility, which offers meeting spaces, art galleries and a bevy of social and mental health services. Community leaders and allies congratulated members of the First City Network, Georgia’s oldest LGBT advocacy organization. “This is a special, special day,” said longtime community champion and former Savannah Pride organizer Mark Hill. “We’ve been working a long time for it all to come together.”
