City takes first steps toward food truck policy

Posted By on Thu, Aug 6, 2015 at 5:05 PM

At a workshop meeting today, Savannah City Council attemped to grapple with some of the issues involved with finally allowing food trucks to operate in city limits — the conspicuous lack of which has been a growing complaint.

The framework as currently envisioned involves virtually no food trucks within the Historic District, however, with the exception of the MLK Boulevard corridor.

Of particular emphasis is allowing food trucks within developing areas and documented food deserts, such as the Westside, which currently has no major grocery stores and very few food establishments.
