Twilight Visions: Surrealism, Photography, and Paris -- Through October 10 at Telfair's Jepson Center. Twilight Visions explores the city of Paris as the literal and metaphoric base of Surrealism. Over 100 works-mainly vintage photographs but also including films, books, and period ephemera.

Philip Perkis: Fifty Years of Photographs -- Through September 19 at Telfair's Jepson Center. One of the country's most widely respected photographers, Perkis creates images that amount to visual poetry, capturing fleeting moments of everyday existence that might otherwise go unnoticed.

2nd Annual Friends of African American Arts Fine Arts Exhibition -- August 29-October 24 at Beach Institute
Presented by Telfair Museums, the Friends of African American Arts (FAAA), and the Beach Institute, juried show features work in a variety of media by artists such as Suzanne Jackson, Preston Russell, Margaret Brennan, and Amiri Farris. Free and open to the public.

Metalpoint Drawings by Dennis Martin -- September 18 -January 30 at Telfair Academy. Martin utilized the tone and delicacy of metalpoint to create exacting, beautifully lit portrayals of his human subjects and imbue them with a timeless quality.

Birds in Flight: An Installation by Matt Hebermehl -- September 23- March 23 at Telfair's Jepson Center. Eckburg Atrium will be transformed with an intriguing installation of five suspended, wooden birds created by community artist Matt Hebermehl

The Art of Kahlil Gibran -- Sept. 29 - Jan. 23 at Telfair's Jepson Center. In September, the Telfair's Kahlil Gibran holdings will make their Jepson Center debut in the Varnedoe and Levitt Galleries. This collection of drawings, watercolors, and paintings spans his career-with works from his first exhibition at photographer Frederick Holland Day's studio in Boston in 1904 to art created during the last years of his life.

Longitudes and Latitudes: Stories from Abroad -- Sep. 23- Oct. 12 the AASU Department of Art, Music & Theatre presents a student art exhibition inspired by study-abroad experiences throughout the globe, in the AASU Fine Arts Gallery. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. Admission is free.

Four Squared Exhibition -- Sept. 17 - Oct. 29 at Gallery S.P.A.C.E., 9 W. Henry St. Opening Reception, Sept. 17, 5 - 7 p.m. Four squared is an exhibition by four artist-mothers and their experiences of making art amongst the chaos of raising young children. Featuring the artwork of Linette Dubois, Ashley Waldvogel Gaddy, Melinda Schawel, and Atsuko Smith.

Raku Sushi/Pizza Night -- At 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Hall Courtyard and Fine Arts Hall room 102 on Oct. 27 the AASU Department of Art, Music & Theatre ceramics program hosts a viewing of kiln fired pottery of AASU art majors. Witness the kiln firing process firsthand. Admission is free.

"Fuel to the Fire: The Poster Design of Methane Studios" -- Oct. 11-Nov. 5 at Alexander Hall Gallery. SavFADA Fall Trolley Hop -- Savannah Fine Art Dealers Association hosts their 4th Annual Fall Trolley Hop on Thursday, Oct, 21, 5-8:30pm. This event is free and all are welcome. The Art of Kahlil Gibran Book Launch -- Oct. 28 at Telfair's Jepson Center, to celebrate the release of the new book, The Art of Kahlil Gibran. The 72-page, hard-cover book documents the Telfair's substantial holdings of Gibran's work.

Modern Masters from the Smithsonian American Art Museum -- Nov. 5- Feb. 6 at Telfair's Jepson Center. This exhibition of highlights from the outstanding collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum will examine the complex and heterogeneous nature of American art in the mid-twentieth century. Featuring thirty-one of the most celebrated artists who came to maturity in the 1950s

Lecture by Virginia Mecklenburg -- November 4, 6 pm at Telfair's Jepson Center. Join Virginia Mecklenberg, curator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, for a discussion of highlights from the Modern Masters exhibition. The lecture program is free and open to the public. Arty Party Preview -- Nov. 12, 7-10 pm in Telfair Square. This highly anticipated event allows members an exclusive opportunity to preview and purchase the featured art and to mingle with the participating artists at a chic cocktail reception. 16th Annual Telfair Art Fair -- Nov. 13, 10 am-5 pm and November 14, 12-4 pm in Telfair Square. Held under a large, lighted tent adjacent to historic Telfair Square, the 2010 Art Fair is free and open to the public throughout the weekend. The annual event showcases a variety of original art for sale, with something to suit every taste and budget. This year, the Children's Art Fair in the Square will provide kids with fun and exciting activities and projects.

Candida HÖfer, "Infinite Moments" -- Nov. 17-Dec. 31 at Pinnacle Gallery, Liberty St. The SCAD exhibitions department presents Infinite Moments, an exhibition of photographs by artist Candida HÖfer. The selected works portray monumental interiors of cultural public spaces such as museums, theaters and palaces that are at once unoccupied and yet hauntingly affected by their former inhabitants.

"After Color" -- Dec. 9-Jan. 28, Hall Street Gallery Reception: Jan. 28, 6-7:30 p.m. The SCAD exhibitions department presents the acclaimed group exhibition After Color, guest curated by Amani Olu. After Color showcases the photo-based works of nine contemporary artists who help redefine the potential of black-and-white photography.

Christmas Pottery Sale -- Dec. 1-2: The AASU Department of Art, Music & Theatre presents the 22nd annual faculty and student sale from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day in AASU Fine Arts Hall, Room 102. John Jensen, AASU professor of art, and select students in the AASU art program create hand-crafted pottery and ceramics ranging from fine art to functional items for this sale.

I Have Marks to Make -- Dec. 5- Jan. 3 at Telfair's Jepson Center. "I Have Marks to Make" enters its sixteenth year at Telfair Museums, emphasizing the role that visual, language, and performing arts can play in the lives of individuals with disabilities and for those in rehabilitation from injury or illness. Taking place in the second floor education spaces of the Jepson Center, the exhibition will feature work by nearly one hundred artists of all ages. Opening reception Dec. 5, 2-5 pm.
