The scene was a lively mix of local patrons and artists, SCAD students and professors who welcomed the new owners of Non-Fiction Gallery at 1522 Bull Street to the gallery circuit.
Alessandra Hoshor, outgoing owner, was present to hand over the reins of this visionary enterprise to a partnership of four artists: Heather MacRae-Trulson, Ben Tollefson, Naimar Ramirez, and Sam Bryer.
Works currently on display are by Non-Fiction alumni such as Alicia Linke and Giordano Angeletti.
"We are so excited to have such an enthusiastic crowd for our soft opening. And in the summer when so many people are gone!" exclaimed Ben.
Heather explained, "This is a great culmination of artists that we have worked closely with in the past. This event is a jumping off point and we look forward to hosting painting and photography shows, but also are truly interested in continuing the expansion and exploration that the previous owners pursued. We intend to hold workshops, performances, and put on exhibitions outside of the regular events available in Savannah. The creation of a connection to the community while developing a place where contemporary art can feel at home in Savannah is our goal."
Heather added that they will extend Hoshor's vision of a multi-media exhibition space and also feature internationally recognized artists who will be present for lectures and workshops.
Upcoming exhibitions will include the work of New York-based artist William Ruller, opening July 19. Ruller's mixed media works on paper are textural abstract reactions to decaying and residual urban areas. Preview them at www.wiliamruller.com. cs
