Pooler’s Fun Zone celebrates 20 years

Updated July 14, 2023 at 2:27 p.m.

Fun Zone, Pooler’s go-to entertainment center, complete with a go-kart track, arcade and mini-golf course, is celebrating 20 years. It all started back in 2003, when the original owner opened Five Star Family Fun Park. The current owner Andy McCumber bought the property in 2008 and rebranded it as Fun Zone.

“I’d spent 20 years working in Pooler and seeing [the property]. I got to know the owner and when he decided to sell it, he was elderly. He mentioned it to me and that’s what led to me taking a different career path and operating a family entertainment center,” said McCumber.

Since taking ownership, McCumber reported that business has grown every year. He credited his team members for the success of the business, many of whom have been with Fun Zone for several years.

“My general manager has been there 15 years and some other long-term employees. Honestly they’re like family to me. . . They run the business like it’s their own and they do a great job,” he said.

McCumber also appreciates the community support Fun Zone has received through the years, and he’s using their 20th anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate and thank the community for their loyal patronage. The festivities kick off on Monday, July 17 with a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m.

“All the city officials, media, everybody’s invited to that. And then we’re going to deep discount our value bands all week, all day everyday. . . In celebration of the 20th anniversary, we’re going to offer $20 value bands, which is quite a discount from what they are normally priced. We’re going to have lots of giveaways: hats, T-shirts, thermoses, all kinds of great prizes every day for seven days. And then we’re going to have some grand prizes. We’re going to give away 20 family four-packs to visit the park. And then the grand prize is going to be a four-pack of season passes,” McCumber explained.

On Saturday, July 22, there will be face painters on site from 12 to 5 p.m. and a 360 photo booth experience that evening from 5 to 7 p.m. along with decorations, balloons and special lighting all week. McCumber encourages the public to come out for the festivities to enjoy great discounts, prizes, giveaways and good old family fun.

In anticipation of the 20th anniversary, Fun Zone has also undergone some significant renovations.

“We have a new color scheme throughout all of our buildings. We beautified and completely restored our two 18-hole mini golf courses. We remodeled our arcade and added many new games. We have a new larger redemption center. We resurfaced all of our roadways and parking areas,” said McCumber.

With these fresh renovations, McCumber is excited to continue to provide merriment to families for many years to come.

“My wife Cindy and I have always had the goal of providing top-tier family-friendly entertainment in Pooler and the surrounding areas, and that’s what we do. We pride ourselves on that, and we believe we have something for all ages. It’s a wonderful, wholesome environment for the community,” he said. “We owe it to the community and our great team members for our success for these 20 years.”
