Two brothers are behind bars after stealing an SUV in front of a River Street cafe. John Walker, 24, and Adam Walker, 22, were charged with felony theft by taking as a result of the July 11 incident, which occurred around 8 p.m. The SUV belonged to a family that was getting out of the car to dine at the restaurant. The Walkers took the car for a seven-minute joy ride before they were captured by members of the robbery intervention detail. The driver of the car had just pulled in front of the restaurant, and his wife and two of their three children got out. As the father got out to get the smallest child out of the vehicle, the Walkers commandeered it and drove east on River Street. Adam Walker was later identified as the driver. The victim made a 911 call and a description of the SUV was broadcast. Although the Walkers thought they had gotten away, they were quickly snared by a saturated police presence. Cpl. Gerald Fedak saw the SUV on Bay Street and followed it until it reached West Boundary Street. When Fedak turned on his blue lights, the Walkers found themselves boxed in by police cars. John Walker was on parole at the time of the incident. In addition to other charges, Adam Walker was found to be driving while his license was suspended.
• A woman was fired after talking on her cellphone during work at a Skidaway Road restaurant. The manager who fired the woman said that the restaurant began receiving threatening phone calls that were directed at her. The suspect threatened to break the windows on the manager’s car, and said she would assault the manager and her 5-year-old son. The victim said the calls were constant and that when an employee would answer the phone, the caller would curse at them. She said she believes the calls were coming not only from the woman who was fired, but her friends and family, as well. The manager was advised on peace bond and warrant procedures, and given a case report number card. Her residence was placed on extra patrol.
• While on routine patrol in the area of 31st and Montgomery streets, an officer observed a woman who appeared to be ill or very high on a controlled substance. The woman’s eyes were red and glassy and she continuously rubbed her arms and abdomen with her hands. The officer spoke to the woman, who said that her stomach was hurting, however, she did not wish to have EMS on the scene. A black handbag was found in the area. The woman said she had no knowledge about the owner of the bag. When the officer checked the bag, prescription medication with the woman’s name on it was found. There also was a white rock-like substance that appeared to be crack cocaine, a ceramic pipe with black residue and a copper filter, plus a large open bottle of Glenmore London dry gin and a package of small plastic alcohol shot cups. The substance tested positive for cocaine. The woman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug-related objects and an open container violation and taken to jail.
• Two officers responded to an apartment on Holland Drive in reference to a prowler. A woman who lived at the complex said she heard banging and voices. Her husband went and checked out a nearby apartment and found a woman inside the apartment, talking to herself. The man called another resident to the scene. When the officers arrived, the suspect was standing in front of the apartment, holding two closed containers of alcohol and an open container in her right hand. One of the officers asked why she at the apartment, She said she was visiting someone, however the apartment she had entered was vacant. The woman had entered the apartment through an open rear door. Other residents at the scene watched the woman lock the door. An officer told the woman to gather up her items and go home. She responded, “You can’t make me go anywhere.” The woman was then told to put the containers down. Instead, she threw them the closed ones down. She was arrested and taken to jail. ç
