MUGGER + HUNGER ANTHEM @ EL ROCKO
THU APR 11 | 9 PM
With the demise of vocalist Anna Troxell and hubby/drummer Patrick’s Philly noise-gaze band Creepoid, the couple relocated to Austin. You might have heard Austin has a, shall we say, vibrant music scene. That didn’t scare Mr. and Mrs. Troxell. (They do the scaring, got it?) Hooking up with former Radioactivity guitarist Daniel Fried and The Well bassist Lisa Alley, they formed the hardcore punk outfit Mugger and dropped a devastating demo. It didn’t take long for the over-capacity Austin scene to take notice. That's not easy. Hunger Anthem, from Athens, is an intriguing combo of lo-fi and power pop. Savannah’s old-school hardcore thrashers Protozoan and moody electronic soundscape shapers Nosebleeeeed (five e’s!) open.

MINNESOTA @ ELAN SAVANNAH
FRI APR 12 | 3–6 PM
Born in the state of his moniker but growing up in the “(insert anything fun here) Prohibited” sign capital of planet Earth, Santa Cruz, Ca., you might expect a free-thinking musician/artist type would feel stifled beyond belief. Oppression often creates lasting works of art, and Minnesota (born Christian Bauhofer) has been a popular EDM DJ and producer for more than a decade. Known for high-energy songs with pounding bass, the Minnesota sound is influenced by the hard rock legends he listened to growing up, like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, along with the one-two-punch of emo and screamo. The analog heaviness weaves its way into the electronics, and it’s hard to miss.

SOAP @ THE WORMHOLE
FRI APR 12 | 9:30 PM
Soap has been on a roll for the last year or so. The band has been part of the Savannah live music scene for about two decades, playing out more than they have been in a while. They played a couple of well-received mid-week shows in Atlanta and performed three songs on the esteemed NPR/GPB Peach Jam Podcast in November 2023. Soap is essentially a party band that aims for broad appeal. The versatile musicians effortlessly switch styles song-by-song, treating the audience to the full spectrum of rock, funk, soul, R&B, Americana, roots, and occasional covers at just the right time.

TIM MONTANA @ DISTRICT LIVE
SAT APR 13 | 8 PM
Here’s a self-made success story to inspire the lazy and needlessly hopeless. Tim grew up off the grid in a Montana (no relation) trailer powered by a faulty generator. Determined to make it, he moved to Nashville at age 21 and earned a reputation for being a hard-working wildman. That hard work paid off and he eventually landed on David Letterman’s radar, who personally booked him on The Late Show. He also collaborated with Billy Gibbons on “This Beard Came Here to Party” and co-wrote a couple of Kid Rock songs on one of his Top 10 albums, “Sweet Southern Sugar.” His storytelling and songwriting skills, along with more heavy distortion than you’d expect to hear on a Southern and country rock guitar, have earned the praise of Mr. Cool himself, Dave Grohl. But perhaps the highest praise may be from Charlie Sheen, who loved Tim’s music so much he directed the video for “Mostly Stoned.” Because, of course, he did.

BASK + SPACE COKE + ONE LONELY GOAT @ EL ROCKO
SAT APR 13 | 8 PM
Bask (pictured, waiting for the meteor) has been making amplifiers beg for mercy for about a dozen years. Spewing out a potent blend of post-rock, stoner rock, and psychedelic Americana, they’ve found a way to inject Appalachian culture and history into big, loud music with long atmospheric passages that border on pretty. Conversely, Space Coke isn’t pretty. They play gigantic Black Sabbath-on-PCP riff-heavy rock and metal, with a cacophonous ending to every show. Savannah sludge-metal purists One Lonely Goat can hardly be any heavier for a trio, but they attempt to outdo themselves often, so expect a riot from the start.
