THE WARREN BROTHERS: Bringing the stories behind their songs to the Morris Center

Connect Savannah is launching a new singer-songwriter concert series and kicking it off are Grammy nominated and Emmy Award winning songwriting duo, the Warren Brothers.

“We’re excited to launch the singer-songwriter series with Connect, showcasing world-class talent nationwide in an intimate setting,” Charles Hill Morris, CEO of Metro Market Media said. “Each event offers an unforgettable night of amazing music and the stories behind some of your favorite songs told by those who wrote them.”

Consisting of Brad and Brett Warren, the Warren Brothers have nine number one songs to their credit including Blake Shelton’s “Every Time I Hear That Song” and Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup.” In addition, they have written songs for Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley, Thomas Rhett, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Nickelback, Hinder, and many others.

Hailing from Tampa Florida, older brother Brad says music became a part of their lives at a young age.

“We had a super super Southern Baptist charismatic upbringing, so everything was a sin especially rock n’ roll,” Warren said. “Our whole family were musicians. My parents both played, my older sisters both played piano, guitar, and sang so we kinda had a natural ability for it. When I heard the electric guitar for the first time I was like ‘yup that’s what I want to do’ so, I became this rock n’ roll kid.”

From that point on, Warren says he began playing in a band and quickly realized that in order to be in a band you had to write songs for your band.

“I started playing guitar at 11 and by 12 or 13 I was writing songs by myself for our band, he said.” My little brother Brett was talented at everything he tried musically, and my band needed a drummer and singer, so he played drums and sang in our band. Literally from that band in our teens until now we have never written a song without each other, and we’ve written probably 2700 songs together.”

In 1995, the Warren Brothers relocated to Nashville to be recording artists and two years later signed a record deal with RCA. During that time, they toured with Faith Hill and Tim McGraw and although they never had a major hit as artists, McGraw did latch on to their songwriting and over the years has recorded over 35 of their songs.

“He started listening to our songs as we were sound checking every day so we started playing songs that we thought he would like so that’s how we first got cuts from Tim McGraw,” Warren explained. “Thank God for him because I think he made other artists interested in our writing that may not have been.”

When it comes to a favorite song, Warren says one song is very special to him due to the responses they received.

“We wrote a song with Tim McGraw called ‘If You’re Reading This’ and it’s a song that’s a letter that soldiers send home when they’re going on a dangerous mission. The response we’ve gotten from that song has been so sweet and kind from mothers who have lost their sons in battle.”

On Thurs., June 27 the Warren Brothers will grace the Morris Center stage.

“It’s not just a concert, it’s a listening-interactive experience,” Warren explained. “The songs have survived time and so we go play these shows now and we play the songs that we’ve written for other people, and we tell the stories behind them. It’s cool to strip it down to see where the song originated. If the crowd is small enough, we’ll even do a Q & A and we love that. We love finding out what’s interesting to people and we always wind up having a story about one of the questions.”

Warren added that they will play and tell the stories behind most of their number one hits.

“It’s the most raw broken-down version of the songs that you’ve heard on the radio. We play the songs that have seemed to have affected people the most and we tell funny stories of what our lives have been like. We’re a lot like Forrest Gump and we’ve wound up in the strangest situations, literally with Forrest Gump!”

The Warren Brothers singer-songwriter experience will take place on Thursday, June 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Morris Center. Tickets are $125 and include drinks and adult beverages. To purchase tickets, visit
