Police investigate early morning armed robberies

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Robbery Unit is investigating two armed robberies that took place in the downtown area, Aug. 4.

At approximately 1 a.m. a female victim was walking north on Habersham Street near Gaston Lane. Reportedly, she noticed someone following her. When she turned around, a suspect armed with a firearm demanded her belongings. The suspect was last seen running south on Habersham Street.

The suspect in this incident is described as black male in his 20s or younger. He is approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs around 190 pounds. During the incident he wore a black crew neck shirt and jeans.

Just after 8 a.m., Metro responded to East Duffy and Drayton Streets to reports of an armed robbery of an elderly man riding a bike. Reportedly, three suspects approached the victim, knocked him off his bicycle and demanded his personal belongings at gunpoint. The suspects were last seen running east on Duffy Street.

The suspects are described as black males in their 20s or early 30s all around 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall. One suspect wore a light blue shirt, dark jeans and tennis shoes. Another suspect wore a blue shirt with flowers, dark jeans and tennis shoes. The last suspect is described as wearing jeans and tennis shoes.
