Kevin E. Taylor new paintings -- Gallery Espresso, 234 Bull St., presents the work of this Charleston based narrative painter and SCAD grad through Nov. 11. Opening reception is Thurs., Oct. 28, 6-9 p.m. with

‘Suzanne Jackson: Monoprints and Drawings’ -- SCAD presents an exhibition of work by painting professor Suzanne Jackson, Oct. 29--Nov.30, at Pinnacle Gallery, 320 E. Liberty St. The exhibition is featured on the college’s monthly gallery hop, Friday, Nov. 5, 5-7 p.m. The exhibition and gallery hop are free and open to the public.



Shows at Desotorow -- Oct 28-Nov. 3 will be the monster show honoring Halloween. The works will be in a variety of media, and there will be a costume contest held. The reception will be Friday Oct. 28 from 7-9 at the gallery in the Starland Design District.



‘Is the Pen Mightier Than the Sword?’ -- Lecture by SCAD political science professor Randy Moffett, Monday, Nov. 1, 7 p.m., at the Newton Center for British-American Studies, 227 MLK Jr. Blvd. Free. Moffett uses printmaker William Hogarth’s “Four Prints of an Election” series as a basis for a discussion of political satire.



‘By Hand -- African American Advertising Art in Savannah’ -- This exhibition at the King Tisdell Cottage, 502 E. Harris St.

features images made by local African American sign painters.



‘Student Impressions: Works on Paper from the Printmaking Program at the Savannah College of Art and Design’ -- Printmaking work by undergraduate and graduate students through Nov. 5 at the May Poetter Gallery, 342 Bull St.



Newton Center shows -- SCAD’s Earle W. Newton Center for British-American Studies at 227 MLK Jr. Blvd. presents three fall exhibition receptions: “The Creators: English Artists, Architects and Writers of the 17th—19th Centuries”; “Focus on Political Satire: The Hogarth ‘Election’ Series”; and “The Illustrated Mark Twain.”



‘Motion Stills’ -- SCAD exhibition “examines the kinetic nature of an increasingly digitized world,” through Nov. 13, at Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton.



Alvida’s Fall Show -- Local artist Luther Vann is showcased as well as new works by Alvida artists Theresa McGraw, Ruth Hunter, Jeff Zeigler, Ken Myer Jr., Kirt Witte, Anne El-Habre, and Judith Metzger. The gallery also welcomes new Savannah potter, Sally Fox.



‘Exploring Watercolor- People, Places and Things’ -- Gallery 440, 440 Bull St., presents Jill Chafin and Lynn Hosegood.

‘From Apache to Zuni’ -- The Telfair Museum of Art hosts this exhibit of Native American objects from the Lowe Museum from Sept. 25-Jan. 2. Several events and lectures dealing with the exhibit will be held throughout October.



Gallery 209 -- Stained glass artist Mary Ingalls and painter Jean Jones are featured artists for October at Gallery 209, 209 E. River St.



‘Tool Set: Post/American Reality’ -- SCAD presents this moving image exhibition through Oct. 30, at Orleans Hall Gallery, 201 Barnard St. Free.



‘Is There a Doctor in the House?’ -- The Hospice Savannah will showcase artwork by area physicians through October 31 at the Hospice Savannah Art Gallery, located at 1352 Eisenhower Drive.



Fourth annual SCAD metals and jewelry trunk show -- Nov. 5–13, at shopSCAD, 340 Bull St. shopSCAD is open Sunday, 12-5; Monday-Friday, 9-5:30; and Saturday, 10-5. The trunk show features handmade jewelry and gifts by SCAD students, alumni, faculty and staff and is available for purchase. w
