On June 19 at 6:30 pm, Georgia Southern University will kick off the 2018 Refugee Film Festival. Paired with Mountainfilm on Tour-Savannah and Lutheran Services of Georgia have teamed up to host the event on Armstrong University Campus in the Ogeechee Theatre.

“The timing of this event could not be better,” said Georgia Southern Director of Military and Local Government Affairs Peter Hoffman.

World Refugee Day is observed internationally on June 20. Officially stating in 2001, United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and many other civic groups host events all over the world to bring attention to the many refugees who have been forced to leave their homes due to war, persecution and conflict.

The theme for this years festival is “Migration”, with key films focusing directly on the issue.

“I think [the films] are important because it brings light to refugees and it highlights some of the struggles and challenges they face,” says Hoffman, “people hear about the struggles and these films will help bring more dialogue to the issues."

This event is open and free to the public and will feature four acclaimed films including:
