Back-to-school bashes taking place throughout town

With July coming to an end, the 2023-2024 school year is on the horizon. While the sun may be setting on summer vacation, the school break is going out with a bang. Several community businesses, nonprofits and organizations are hosting back-to-school events to send students off in a fun way. Local families will be able to receive much needed school supplies while enjoying everything else these exciting events have to offer. Get pumped for the academic year at these back-to-school bashes taking place around town. 

Marne Palooza

Hunter Army Airfield and Family, Moral, Welfare and Recreation will host their annual back-to-school event on base for military families on Thursday, March 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. Attendees can enjoy an afternoon of fun complete with games, music, prizes and food. Local school representatives and vendors will be present to share information of interest to the HAAF community. 

Rock Fest 2023

Savannah church, Overcoming by Faith Ministries, will hold their annual Rock Fest on Saturday, July 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their campus at 9700 Middleground Road. The back-to-school celebration is a fun opportunity for local families to receive free uniforms and enjoy inflatable games, carnival rides and food trucks. There will also be a kid’s play land for small children. 

Back to School BLOCK ROCK

Local nonprofit, The Front Porch will present their annual Back to School BLOCK ROCK on July 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the MLK Jr. Arena in the Savannah Civic Center. There will be games, giveaways, food and more. Elementary, middle and high school students in attendance will be able to receive school supplies and uniforms. Various community partners including Healthy Savannah, Combat Boots 2 The Boardroom, TIP and Performance Initiatives will be present. The event will also include a special performance by the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra. 

Chatham Parkway Subaru Back to School Drive

Chatham Parkway Subaru is conducting a Back to School Drive and Family Fun Day at Enmarket Arena on July 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. Now in its third year, this event is fun for the whole family. Enjoy a game bus, food trucks, bounce houses and raffle giveaways. The organizers are also giving away 1000 backpacks filled with supplies. 

Community Wide Back 2 School Bash

Pooler will host a Community Wide Back 2 School Bash on Sunday, July 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 920 Morgan’s Corner Road. The event will include face painting, bouncy houses, free kids’ haircuts, food, music and pop up shops. The first 300 kids in attendance will receive free backpacks filled with supplies. 

Welcome Back To School Bash

Reach Our Youth Community Outreach and Pak United, Inc presents their Welcome Back To School Bash on July 30 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Daffin Park. Attendees can enjoy food, games, giveaways and school supplies. This event will be hosted by Real Water Records. 

Flau’jae Homecoming Weekend Back 2 School Festival

Savannah native, rapper and Louisiana State University basketball star Flau’jae Johnson is hosting a back-to-school festival at Lake Mayer on July 30 from 3 to 8 p.m. Families will be able to receive free school supplies and necessities like backpacks, uniforms, shoes and headphones. The festivities will include music, food, bounce houses, face painting, a basketball tournament and a skate park with a DJ.

Blessings in a Bookbag Back to School Bash

Youth food service nonprofit Blessings in a Bookbag presents their 12th annual Back to School Bash, which will take place at Savannah Children’s Museum on Saturday, Aug.5 from 11 to 2 p.m. Families can enjoy free food, free school supplies, free uniforms and free health screenings. There will also be giveaways and raffle prizes, including a free bike.
