Ten Can Run on Turkey Day

Savannah Christian Church sponsors southside event

IF YOU'RE looking for something good to do for others on Thanksgiving Day, look no more.

On Thanksgiving morning you can run or walk the annual Ten Can Run, a 5K course starting at Savannah Christian Church on Al Henderson Boulevard and winding through Henderson Golf Course.

The registration fee is -- as you might have guessed by now --ten cans of food plus $15 (18+), $10 (ages 10-17), or $5 (ages 10 and under.)

All proceeds benefit Savannah Christian’s Lighthouse Ministry, which provides direction and assistance to those in need in our community.

“This is something healthy and fun you can do with your family and at the same time, you’ll be helping stock our Lighthouse food pantry,” says Savannah Christian's Outreach Pastor John-Mark Romans.

The church’s Lighthouse Ministry offers food, clothing and other assistance to applicants, serving an average of 300 families a month.

“We don’t just give food. We offer spiritual direction and advice to help people overcome the problems that are putting them in these difficult, desperate circumstances,” Romans said.

Registration for the run begins at 7:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning in the Savannah Christian parking lot. You can also register in advance at active.com with the key words Ten Can Run.

A quarter-mile fun run for kids starts at 8:45 a.m. The 5K walk/run starts at 9 a.m.
