The man wanted for the October 2005 abduction, aggravated assault and rape of a Whitemarsh Island woman has been extradited back to Savannah to face charges. Robert T. Field, age 34, of Florida, is being held at the Chatham County Detention Center. The FBI fugitive task force and Broward County authorities captured Fields on October 14 after he fled to Florida following the attack. At 2:20 a.m. Oct. 4, a 21-year-old woman called police to report she’d been raped on Whitemarsh Island. The woman told police a white male approached her inside the Circle K convenience store at Quarterman and Highway 80 and asked about a party. When she left the store and entered her vehicle, the man got in the passenger side, pulled out a gun, and forced her to drive to an area near Bryan Woods Road and Highway 80 where he assaulted and raped her.



• A man was arrested after he was discovered sleeping under some covers on a mattress in the bedroom of a residence he had broken into. Police were called to a West 43rd Street residence by a man who said he noticed the rear door of his property had been forced open. A window next to the rear door had been broken, as well. The victim said he entered the building and observed someone sleeping on a mattress in a bedroom, at which point he went back down the stairs and called police. The responding officer also observed the man sleeping in the bedroom. The officer woke the man and asked him why he was at the residence The man responded that a cousin who used to live at the residence gave him permission to be there. When he admitted that he knew the cousin had since moved, he was arrested.



• While buckling her child into a child seat in the back of her vehicle in a Habersham Street parking lot, a woman was approached by a man who said, “I don’t wish to shoot you, just give me your purse.” The woman told police she didn’t see a weapon, but did believe the man had one. She gave him the purse and the man got into an older model car and drove off down Reynolds Street.



• An officer was dispatched to an apartment on Skidaway Road in reference to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, the officer learned that the man who lived there was in his bedroom with the door closed and his former fiancee was standing outside the door. As the officer approached, the man came out of the bedroom. He said he was in the process of moving out of the apartment because he and his fiancee had not been getting along. The man said he was trying to move his belongings, but his fiancee would not let him take the television and video game system that he had paid for. He told the officer that when his fiancee returned home, he was unplugging some of the equipment. When she saw what he was doing, she became disorderly and began yelling at him and telling him he was not going to take the television or game system. He said the woman then came at him and began striking him with her hands and fists. A friend of the man separated the two, at which point the woman went to the kitchen to get a knife. After the officer spoke with witnesses at the scene, she was charged with simple battery.



• Police were called to an Abercorn Street bar in reference to an armed robbery. The victim advised he had just been robbed at gunpoint by two men. The victim said he was at the bar having a drink and went outside to the rear of the bar to get some money out of his vehicle to pay. He said he was approached by the men as he returned to the bar. The two men had been playing pool in the bar earlier, the victim said. He said the shorter of the two unknown suspects pulled a gun and said, “Gimme all ya money.” The victim said he gave the men his cell phone, $300 dollars and two gold necklaces. The suspects then jumped into a dark car and left the parking lot. The victim said he attempted to locate them in his own vehicle, but was unsuccessful, so he called police. Robbery detectives were notified immediately and witnesses were questioned.
