Moira Nelligan and the Dixie Jigs @Sentient Bean

MOIRA Nelligan and the Dixie Jigs showcase Georgia-born, Irish-descended Nelligan’s proud roots and her ability to fuse traditions and take them into new, exciting territories. Be it Georgia sea island folk songs, gypsy-inflected numbers, or jig-driven tunes with an Irish bend, the band seems to be the perfect act to lead us into St. Patrick’s Day.

The fiddle-wielding Nelligan is a former Savannah resident with her roots now planted in Decatur. She plays alongside son Mickey Nelligan, a talented Irish guitarist, fiddler, and blues harmonica player (he also plays with his siblings in string band The Stone Mountain Wobblers) and mandolinist George Norman.

Anna Chandler

Connect Savannah Former Arts & Entertainment Editor Anna Chandler started writing about music after growing hoarse from talking about it nonstop. Born in Tennessee and raised in South Carolina, she has been a proud Savannahian for 8 years. She sings & plays guitar & accordion in COEDS and Lovely Locks.
