As almost a million visitors are expected to flow into The Hostess City for the events surrounding the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. This is music to the ears of local businesses throughout town, especially the owner of Saints and Shamrocks.

Across from The Desoto Hotel on Bull Street, Saints and Shamrocks has served Savannah for over 28 years as the only store in town offering authentic Irish accessories.

Saints and Shamrocks was established in 1992 by Jeanne and James Zittrauer to meet the needs of Savannah’s Irish Catholic community. Upon Jeanne’s retirement in 2009, the shop was purchased by Hope and Joseph Ebberwein.

Today, Hope Ebberwein is thrilled by the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day celebration and what it means to the city.

“We are so excited about having this celebration once again,” Ebberwein said.   “And, we’re thrilled to welcome people into Saints and Shamrock, the only store in town offering authentic items from Ireland like jewelry, shirts custom made, hats, purses, and other accessories. We hope you will think of us for all your Irish gifts.”

Ebberwein said their goal is to continue the tradition of providing quality Irish imports and religious gifts to the Savannah community and the many wonderful visitors from all areas of the country and the world.

“We believe in providing our customers with just the right gift for any occasion or need. We are proud of our Irish Catholic heritage and we understand the importance of tradition to family and friends. Our merchandise represents gifts that you will be proud to give and that make a lasting impression on the person who receives them,” she said.

The parade will pass right in front of Saints and Shamrocks and Ebberwein will be celebrating with everyone.

“To me, the parade is the grand finale to this very important season for the Irish in Savannah which starts with electing our Grand Marshal to the Celtic Cross Ceremony, to the greening of the founding, the tribute to the Jasper Greens…wow, just so much that gives tribute to the Irish in Savannah and all of their contributions.”

While some folks might only see St. Patrick’s Day as a “party day,” Ebberwein stresses what she believes is the most valuable part of the day.

“It’s all about family.  Families.  It means family reunions for many people in Savannah.  Many people come home for the festivities, so it’s a wonderful time of family, friends, and faith.”

Most of all, Ebberwein shares her good southern hospitality with a wish.  “We’re happy to have you visiting and hope you feel the same.  Enjoy being a Savannahian for even just one day.  We welcome you all with open arms.”
