Global travel media brand Travel + Leisure recently announced their 2023 World’s Best Awards, and Savannah received several accolades for its signature Southern charm and haunting hospitality. Each year, T+L asks their readers to share their opinions on their favorite travel locales in the World’s Best Awards survey.

This year, nearly 165,000 readers weighed in casting nearly 700,000 votes over 8,500 unique properties including hotels,  cities, airlines and more. The fact that Savannah was ranked among the top destinations in a number of categories speaks to the city’s unique appeal. Here’s how the Hostess City fared in this year’s awards.

Savannah came in fourth place of T+L readers’ 15 favorite cities in the United States, having received a reader score of 85.96. Cities were rated on various criteria including sights and landmarks, culture, food, friendliness, shopping and value, and it should come as no surprise that Savannah hits every mark. T+L noted the city’s historic squares, moss-draped oaks, museums and our lauded Leopold’s ice creamery. Interestingly, Savannah’s sister city Charleston topped the list this year, solidifying the Lowcountry’s reputation as a top tier travel destination.

T+L readers also identified their five favorite Savannah hotels for 2023:

  1. Perry Lane Hotel: 93.85

  2. The Alida: 93.00

  3. JW Marriott Plant Riverside District: 91.25

  4. Bohemian Hotel: 87.54

  5. Mansion on Forsyth Park: 87.31*

This year, Savannah was also recognized for having one of the 10 favorite domestic airports. Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport received a reader score of 78.47, which earned the airport the number seven spot on the list. It has fallen since topping the list in 2022, but Savannah/Hilton Head International has consistently been ranked among T+L’s  top ten domestic airports for the last six years.

The southeastern coastal region received high marks as well. Hilton Head Health came in at number three for the top 15 favorite domestic destination spas.

And the tranquil and picturesque Golden Isles (Jekyll island, Little St. Simons Island, Sea Island and St. SImons Island) topped the list of T+L’s 15 favorite islands in the continental U.S.
