JUST PEACHY: Creative peach dishes and drinks to try at local restaurants

August is National Peach Month, and Georgia is the Peach State, so it’s quite natural to celebrate the flavorful fruit around these parts. Fuzzy, round, juicy and deliciously sweet, Georgia peaches don’t disappoint. Here in the Hostess City, we’re known to enjoy a peach bellini at brunch and a golden peach cobbler as our decadent dessert of choice. Our collective passion for peaches goes without saying, so it’s great to have a month to celebrate the sensational stone fruit. Local restaurants have been serving up peaches in inventive ways for quite some time, so join us in observing National Peach Month by trying the peachy plates at these local eateries.

Ardsley Station

Savannahians love Ardsley Station for several reasons, their elevated menu offerings chief among them. Take their pimento cheese bruschetta for one. It’s your favorite Southern cheese atop crisp bread along with peaches, red pepper jelly and radish, making for a complex bite that combines sweet and savory flavors. Their dry-aged pork chop, which is served with sweet potato mash, peach chutney and seasonal veggies, is another palate-pleasing peach option. Wash it all down with the Forsyth Fresca, which is made with Ketel One peach, to round out the meal.

Mirabelle

Mirabelle is a taste of Belgium here in the South, boasting authentic liège waffles that are pleasantly doughy and sweet. Crispy on the outside with a warm, soft interior, their waffles are the perfect morning bite. Their peach cobbler waffle is topped with a housemade peach compote, cinnamon streusel and whipped cream. If you’re a fan of peach cobbler, you’re sure to love this waffle.

Sweet Potatoes

Known for their endearing food, Sweet Potatoes Kitchen serves up down home dishes that satisfy the appetite and soothe the soul. Two of their menu items, the chicken and the meatloaf, feature a piquant peach glazed barbecue sauce that delivers on deliciousness.

Treylor Park

Treylor Park

Treylor Park’s signature PB&J chicken wings are innovative and inviting, and they’re made all the more mouthwatering by the peach jam dipping sauce that’s served alongside them. For drinks, they offer a Georgia Mule made with peach bitters, and they also have Leinenkugel Juicy Peach Sour on draft.

The Pirates’ House

With a rich history dating back to the 1700s, The Pirates’ House is a local treasure. Their menu features Southern staples that leave a lasting impression. Among these options is their seafood wrap, which features fresh blackened fish, peach piccalilli and shishito chermoula aioli. It’s a harmony of flavor that peach lovers will particularly enjoy.

Dark Shark

Dark Shark is a local food truck delivering toothsome tacos throughout Savannah’s streets. But they also serve up a sweet specialty: deep fried peaches. They take a plump peach, deep fry it, and toss it in sugar, resulting in a delightfully sweet treat that patrons adore.

Moon River

Serving Savannah since 1999, Moon River is one of the best spots in town for local craft brews. They offer a range of rotating and regular beers, most of which are brewed right on Bay Street. They also have a limited selection of guest beverages, including peach mead from Bluffton’s Beetown. If you’ve never tried mead, it’s made from water, yeast and honey. The mead at Moon River is enhanced with peach notes, adding to the flavor profile.

Alligator Soul

Alligator Soul

If you like a little adventure in your fine dining experience, Alligator Soul is the place for you. This downtown eatery is known for its evolving seasonal menu that often features wild game like elk, kangaroo and ostrich. In addition to the exotic options, Alligator Soul currently has a couple menu items that include peaches. Grilled peaches are the star of the summer salad, served on a bed of spring mix alongside heirloom tomatoes, parmesan grit croutons and candied pecans. They also offer a wild boar shank that comes with mashed potatoes, haricot verts and peach demi-glace. What an elegant upgrade for the humble peach.
