SELWYN BIRCHWOOD @ PLANT RIVERSIDE PAVILION TENT

Birchwood’s “I’d Climb Mountains” won the 2022 Blues Music Award for Song Of The Year. He calls his music “electric swamp funkin’ blues” proving an abundance of self-awareness to go with all that talent. This is a FREE show outdoors on the river. He could charge a lot more, so let’s show some appreciation.

AURA FEST UNDERGROUND WEEKEND - NIGHT 1 @ EL ROCKO

AURA FEST weekend comes roaring back with a vengeance. Tim Walls has corralled 10 bands split into two shows on consecutive nights. Friday headliners Weedeater (pictured) are slow metal kings, alternatively pulverizing and obliterating everything in earshot. They are joined by Rebelmatic, Space Coke, Damned to Earth and One Lonely Goat. Clean underwear recommended.

AURA FEST UNDERGROUND WEEKEND - NIGHT 2 @ EL ROCKO

Thrash metal revivalists CLOAK (pictured) headlines the AURA FEST finale, for all the brave souls who walked away from day one unscathed. Supporting the brutal assault are sludge metal stoners Witchpit, local metal trio Bastardane, former Kylesa co-lead Phillip Cope’s Oakskin, and super heavyweights Doof. Test your mettle and see all 10 bands.

SAT FEB 25 | 7 PM

JAY VAN RAATLE & THE SPECTRUM @ THE WORMHOLE

The 22-year-old Lowcountry native just might be a prodigy. On her last album, she went full-on Prince/Lenny K and plays nearly every instrument. The live band is a three-piece, with Van Raatle’s smoking guitar work way up front. See how she pulls it off on stage.
