The Phil Morrison Trio @Good Times Jazz Bar & Restaurant

Bassist Phil Morrison has held a storied career in the jazz world. The player and composer got his start in his hometown of Boston, performing with saxophonist Sam Rivers, pianist Hal Galper, and drummers Tony Williams and Steve Ellington.

Later, Morrison worked with a group featuring vibist Monty Stark, guitarist John Abercrombie, and drummer Vinnie Johnson. With that lineup, Morrison recorded the album Now. Later, the Black Eyed Peas would sample Morrison’s iconic bassline from the song “Comrades,” using it to set the groove to their song “Audio Delite.”

In his life, Morrison has worked with legends like Dizzy Gillespie, T-Bone Walker, Gloria Lynne, Freddy Cole, and many more. He’s written songs for sports stars like Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and the Beijing Olympics.

Currently, Morrison co-leads World Unity Jazz Ensemble with Keith Williams, recording and traveling through China and Japan. He lives on the Georgia coast.
