Avanguardia — Avanguardia, an exhibition by Savannah-based artist Lisa D. Watson, explores the encroachment of the constructed environment on the natural landscape. Watson uses 95 percent reclaimed materials in her artmaking to keep her ecological footprint small. Collective Intelligence — The SCAD Museum of Art presents "Collective Intelligence," a solo exhibition featuring the work of Agnieszka Kurant, composed of sculpture, works on paper, lenticular prints and a video. Fiber Guild of the Savannahs — The Fiber Guild of the Savannahs is a group of fiber artists who meet regularly to share inspiration and techniques using a wide variety of fiber-related arts. Guo Pei: Couture Beyond — SCAD exhibits the work of Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei, best known for the yellow cape entertainer Rihanna wore to the 2015 Met Gala. Kathy Miller and Susan Hokanson — Kathy Miller paints in oils and watercolors, and her masterful etchings on handmade paper with feathered edges have become a favorite keepsake for Gallery 209 patrons for several decades. Suzy Hokanson creates one-of-a-kind handwoven and nuno-felted fabric works of art, in which colors and textures are free-woven using silk, wool, alpaca, cotton, linin and hand-made rayon fibers. Savannahland X — Savannahland X depicts an alternate timeline version of Savannah. The beauty, history, and overall vibe still remain, but some of the characters are new, the familiar scenes twisted and reimagined. Scenic Impressions: Southern Interpretations from the Johnson Collection — When the world gets urban, the South gets Southern. That’s one way to sum up Scenic Impressions: Southern Paintings from the Johnson Collection, which tells the visual story of shifting stylistic trends in the 19th and early 20th centuries, when Savannah artists of their day often found themselves working in contrast to the increasing mechanism of Europe. I’m Trying to Tell You — Maggie Mullin O’Hara is a multimedia artist from Pittsburgh currently based in Columbia, SC, and Savannah. Kirk Varnedoe: In the Middle at the Modern — Through the lens of an art historian’s life, Kirk Varnedoe: In the Middle at The Modern challenges the nature of authenticity and the power of museums to define what is "high" and what is "low." Native to Savannah and a national art legend, Varnedoe helped set in motion these questions as Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art (1988-2001). This biographic exhibition of altered documents, photographs, animations, and ephemera explores how Varnedoe’s journey—from an early art class at Telfair Academy to one of the world’s leading museums—sharpened his values and curatorial insight. Other Situations — Liliana Porter is best known for her photographs and installations exploring the conflicting boundaries between reality and fiction and the ways in which images are circulated and consumed. Propaganda of War — The posters, designed and realized by Wendy Melton, the Curator of Exhibits and Education, retain the style and flavor of historic referents, which are included in the exhibition.
