Metro Savannah Rotary announces new president and board for 2023/2024
The Rotary Club of Metropolitan Savannah recently inducted its new slate of leadership for the 2023/2024 year at its July 18 meeting and is proud to announce its new Club President, Jasmine Mills. This year’s board is the most diverse one in the club’s 11-year history.
Jasmine Mills is a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor, nutrition coach, and board-certified health and wellness coach. She works for CustomFit Training Center, a local fitness training studio, and Noom, a consumer-led digital health company that helps people live healthier, happier lives.
Mills is excited about this year’s Rotary International theme: Create Hope in the World. “Rotary is a leading advocate for positive change, and Metro Savannah is proud to embrace and promote the theme set forth by Rotary International for the year. Inspired by Rotary International's vision, Metro recognizes that hope is the catalyst for progress and transformation. In a world grappling with numerous challenges, it is crucial to cultivate a sense of hope and encourage acts of service that uplift individuals and communities. Sinisa Ciric of the Savannah Philharmonic one of 36 professionals selected to attend League of American Orchestras’ Essentials of Orchestra Management program
Sinisa Ciric, Director of Artistic Operations and Concertmaster Emeritus of the Savannah Philharmonic, is among an international cohort of 36 orchestra and arts professionals selected to participate in Essentials of Orchestra Management, the League of American Orchestras’ premier leadership development program. The ten-day program, running from July 26-August 4, 2023 is presented in collaboration with Juilliard Extension and will take place in New York at Juilliard’s Lincoln Center Campus.
“Creating pathways for future leaders is central to the League’s work,” said League of American Orchestras President and CEO Simon Woods. “But Essentials is so much more than just a learning environment — it’s a place of highly creative thinking where the leaders of today and the future can tackle together some of the challenges and opportunities orchestras are facing. And when we add in the great faculty and Juilliard’s inspiring location, we’re guaranteed to get some really thought-provoking conversations.”
America’s flagship program for early- and mid-career orchestra and arts professionals, Essentials of Orchestra Management offers a pathway to future leadership and career success; since its inception in 2000, over 550 individuals have participated in the program. Now in its 23rd year, Essentials connects, inspires, and challenges tomorrow’s leaders, providing them the knowledge they need to enhance their careers.
“This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for Sinisa, as he is a tremendous contributor to the SavPhil, both on stage as Concertmaster Emeritus and behind the scenes as Director of Artistic Operations,” states Executive Director Amy Williams. “The skills he will gain through this prestigious program will prove invaluable throughout his career, and we are grateful to Rhegan White-Clemm and her husband Tim for their support in making Sinisa’s attendance possible.”

St. Joseph's/Candler's St. Mary's Community Center to host Hyundai job fair
The Hyundai Job Fair will be hosted on Thursday, July 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the center, which is located at 812 W. 36 th Street in Savannah.
Helping residents find employment is part of the mission of St. Mary’s Community Center, a community outreach initiative of St. Joseph's/Candler. Along with individual assistance in job searches and applications, the center hosts job fairs throughout the year.

Local health equity advocate Nichele Hoskins joins the National Women’s Health Network’s Board of Directors
The National Women’s Health Network (NWHN) announces the appointment of Nichele Hoskins to its esteemed Board of Directors. As an accomplished health journalist and dedicated advocate for women’s health and racial health equity, Hoskins brings a wealth of expertise and a passion for empowering women with information and support. Her diverse background and commitment to addressing health inequities make her an invaluable addition to the NWHN’s leadership.
Hoskins currently serves as the Communication Manager for COVID/Flu at Healthy Savannah under the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) grant. She has been instrumental in building community health knowledge and promoting access to vital information on COVID-19, seasonal flu, and vaccines.
Under the REACH grant, awarded by the CDC, she has worked to reduce the disproportionate burden many health issues place on Black and Latiné communities in Chatham County. Prior to her current role, Hoskins served as a senior editor at renowned national publications, including Health and Heart & Soul magazines, and began her journalism career at daily newspapers such as The Sacramento Bee, The Savannah Morning News, the Shreveport Journal, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Nichele Hoskins has long championed women’s health and racial health equity, serving as a national spokeswoman for WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease. Her dedication to promoting women’s access to proper preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment for heart disease is commendable. She has also been actively involved in the community as a board member of the Forsyth Farmer’s Market and a member of the Savannah (Ga.) Chapter of the Links Inc.
Expressing her enthusiasm about joining the NWHN’s Board of Directors, Hoskins said, “I know of NWHN as a women’s organization in the truest sense of the word, offering comprehensive services to empower those who identify as women with information about health and support. I was in elementary school when it was founded, and to its credit, the NWHN continues the work it began in 1975, changing as the needs of women and the issues we’ve faced have changed.”
Denise Hyater Lindenmuth, Executive Director of the National Women’s Health Network, warmly welcomed Nichele Hoskins, stating, “We are thrilled to have Nichele join our Board. Her deep-rooted commitment to women’s health and extensive experience as a health journalist will be invaluable in advancing our mission. We look forward to collaborating with Nichele as we strive to address health inequities, provide comprehensive support to women, and advocate for meaningful change in health care.”

League of Women Voters of Coastal Georgia and The Hungry Club Forum of Savannah to present “Justice for All” criminal justice panel
The Hungry Club Forum of Savannah, Inc. will present the “Justice for All” criminal justice panel, which is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Coastal Georgia, as a part of its popular monthly community education and issues-based forum.
The panel will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at West Broad Street YMCA. Panelists include Chatham County District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones, Superior Court Judge Tammy Stokes, Restorative Rights Advocate Fred Green, Circuit Public Defender Todd H. Martin and Attorney and Rights Restoration Advocate Nancy DeVetter.

Residents encouraged to provide input on traffic safety plans
The City of Savannah will host four different opportunities, on Aug. 8 and Aug. 9, for the public to participate in shaping the continued implementation of the City’s Vision Zero Plan.
The Savannah Vision Zero Action Plan, which was developed last year with an aim to eliminate preventable traffic fatalities, acknowledges that many factors contribute to safe mobility andsets clear objectives to achieve the overall shared goal of zero traffic fatalities and severe injuries.
